Will I need snow chains to drive to Chamonix in Feb?
I'm driving to Chamonix in a 2WD car in Feb and I was wondering what the smaller roads are like in and around the Alps heading from Geneva?
Obviously it depends on the amount of snow at the time but let's go for the worst case scenario.
Has anyone driven this route in snowy conditions? What's it like?

There is a prefectorial order in place until 14th March which states ALL vehicles MUST carry snow-chains. Failure to do so means you could be fined 300 Euros and your vehicle impounded until you buy some.
The local police do not mess about, they are very safety conscious as too many visitors try to ignore the rules and end up DEAD.
