Where do I connect the switched line for a Car Radio .?
I'm putting a new radio in my van but I'm not getting any power to the original harness (I checked the radio fuse in the fuse panel and it's good). I direct connected the constant and switched lines to the battery but because the radio displays graphics and stuff when the radio is off...it killed my battery after sitting for a couple of days. Where can I connect the switched line?
Since the switched line is supposed to be live when your ignition is on and dead when off.... I would hook it into the fusebox where you get power for anything that powers up after you turn the key on... EX: windshield wipers, radio fuse, etc.... If there is current at the radio fuse I would just remove the fuse and wrap the wire onto the fuse and put it back in... Make sure you have a inline fuse in the wire that you are attaching to the fuse or it will not be protected in a overload.
They also have little clips that hook onto fuses too that gives you a spade terminal to hook up a wire, and if you can find these at your local auto store they work great.
