Front Window Regulator

2002 Pontiac Grand Prix window motor vs. regulator?

The passenger, front window motor has been out for...oh about a year now. The other day, the window slowly slid down into door, still on track, and wont stay up. Is it the motor that needs to be replaced or the regulator? Could it be that the motor gears finally completely gave out? Help....!!!!

usually the regulator goes bad either the cable breaks off or the plastic gear or track breaks
