I wash my horses' manes and tails in Tesco Value Baby Shampoo and condition with their baby conditioner.
To Make Your Own mane and tail spray put some baby oil and water (2 parts : 8 parts respectively) in a spray bottle.
To make your own fly spray - 1 part citronella oil (available at the chemist) to 9 parts water. You can add 1 part tea tree oil too if you like, this is good for the coat and skin. Put it in a spray bottle
Hoof dressing - one part iodine (chemist) to 9 parts linseed oil (hardware store, its used for oiling cricket bats). Put it in a jar and apply with a hoof oil brush (I use a pastry brush)
Wound spray for grazes/minor cuts - 1 part tea tree oil, 1 part iodine, 3 parts water - spray bottle
You can get spray bottles at Tesco/Asda etc. for around £1 - though if there's a Home Bargains near you then get them there for around 30p! As for the jars, try and get a plastic tuppaware screw top - Tesco 80p-ish
As for horse treats - polo mints, apples and carrots are all cheap treats. But if you want to bake your own get some porridge oats (I get Tesco Value) [make sure they are just oats, nothing else like preservatives added], mix them with water to form a dough, add grated carrot/apple/pear/crushed mints and roll into little balls. Bake on a low heat (130C) until cooked. Cool and serve
This works better if you can grind the oats to a powder in a pestle and mortar or a food processor as it gives a smoother mix.
