How do you enter the Radio code on a Rover 75 connoisseur? We have the code but don't know how to enter it.

We have the code numbers. We have recently changed the battery, and the radio is asking for the code. However, some of the numbers in the code are higher than the six numbers on the Radio. How are the numbers correctly entered? The car came with a service history and the code, but no instruction manual. Internet searches only seem to bring up how to get a new code, not how to enter an existing code. It is a 2001 UK spec car, with the original built-in Rover Radio/Cassette/6-Cd multi changer units.
