1984 Ford Ranger Speedometer truck?

is up and down without jerkng meter constant speed reading.is bad or I will replace the cable meter speed.

Rapid tests ... unplug the power cord and try to turn. Does it link up or have a point of post-it? cable or not look rusty or bent? also inspect the equipment causing the cable, make sure it is not lack teeth. if substitute and cable / gear. If you attempt to change another speedometer to a junkyard. This is very easy on the old Rangers and relatively inexpensive.
