Yesterday evening, I parked my Toyota Prius in 2002 and the last of the "unity" to "park" really difficult. I turned the car was jumping, but the key was stuck in the ignition. I heard some shifters broken before Classic Prius like yours. The car does not recognize that you are actually in the park (or some other gear), so it does not remove the key. (Is P PRNDB really? Trouble getting the B-mode?) Another possibility is that you hit the steering wheel after changing in the park, and the column direction is locked. (Common in any car.) Wiggle / turn the wheel slightly left and right, and perhaps ease management and allow you to get your key. Meanwhile, no change in the lock button on the steering column. The instructions are in the owner's manual (I have my hand, so from memory) ... I think you need a screwdriver to pop up the lid. I think this button is mainly used for the car in neutral without the key to turn it on, but maybe I let you move the shift lever in the park and then you can get the key.
