How do you get the cigarette smoke smell out of a baby Car Seat ?
A friend of mine gave me her Britax car seat for my daughter. Problem is she smokes like a freight train and it's really smoky smelling. The thing is 1 yr old and in perfect condition other than that. I wouldn't normally buy a used car seat but I know her very well.
You can't wash the straps, so contact Britax about replacements. Consider replacing the foam as well, since you can order it at the same time and save a little on shipping. Take the fabric liner off and machine wash it on your delicates setting. Or, and this what I would probably do, wash it alone in cold water on the regular setting, because the delicate setting probably won't get the smell out. It's not recommended, but hey, it's a used car seat and I'd rather look at a little fraying material than smell cigarette smoke. I'd use some Oxyclean or color safe bleach and a good fabric softener as well. However, then you need to airdry it (I've used fans before to speed the process along) to avoid damaging the elastic.
The real challenge is the shell. You can only clean it with a mild soap, so it may take a few passes to feel like you're making a different.
