Car shut down after acceleration rattling?
I have a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2, 107,000 miles. I had it in the shop last week to have a tune-up, oil change, and to have my heating/cooling system replaced. Everything was fine until today, a week later. After driving about fifteen minutes, my heater/defroster stopped working, the car made a rattling sound on acceleration, and then my car shut down completely.
After turning the car off, I was able to get it started again and drove it to a parking lot. It seemed to run okay, but it was still making the clacking/rattling sound on acceleration. And no heat.
I'm gonna take it back to the shop tomorrow morning, but any ideas on what this might be?
sounds like the cooling system is empty.
The heater works by having the heated coolant pass through the heater core (usually behind the passenger side of the dash) and having a the blower fan blow across it into the cabin.
The overheating sounds like it just overheated and I believe that most newer cars have an automatic shut off to prevent further damage if they get a high temperature reading.
Check your coolant level. I bet it's either empty or really low.

Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to top out at 17 degrees, with a windchill of up to 8 below zero.
