what is the duty of this white botton on the front panel of 1996 Ford Taurus?

I got a 1996 Ford Taurus recently, there is a white botton on the front panel near the radio and AC bottons that I don't know what is its duty, I pressed it few times but nothing happened, can you tell me what is this botton for?

Is it a button or a thumb wheel. If thumb wheel it is there to dim your dome lights. If its a actual button it is something after market. The rear defrost is a rocker switch on the climate cont role cluster. It will depict a window with 3 wavy line on it.
