Installing a Weiand 8-71 Supercharger Kit on to my 350 sbc v8.?
I have a question on installing this Weiand 8-71 Supercharger. Should it bolt right on to my Edelbrock Performer Aluminum Intake or do I have to upgrade to a whole different Intake Manifold? Also, I have heard the term "Dual Quad" with Carburetors. Doesn't it mean Dual or with 2 Carburetors installed on the Blower/Supercharger? I would also like to have 2 Carburetors installed. Currently, I have a Holley 600cfm Carburetor. Couldn't I just buy another Holley 600cfm Carburetor?
By the way, this is going on to a Small Block Chevy 350 in a '68 El Camino.
A lot of big answers here, and most are wrong at some point or the other. Static compression ratio is limited by fuel and pressure ratio. (boost level) You must balance your boost with the octane of the fuel and your motors mechanical compression. You need to understand your motors internals before throwing boost at it.
An 8-71 is capable of putting out more boost than a stock block can handle (somewhere between 9-14 pounds depending on cyl. wall thickness and deck surface, whether the block has been bored, except for the heavier early 60s blocks). Any over 7-9 psi (boost) you will need forged internals, but the statement that all blower motors need forged parts is very untrue.
Blower has it's own intake. a "kit" should come with it.
Dual quads refers to any set-up with two four barrel carbs, whether alone or on top of a blower.
If you buy the same model holley and pay close attention to tuning them, then yes you can just buy another holley.
There is a lot more to adding a blower to your motor than you are thinking, but the info is out there. Some things to consider:
You don't need a new ignition for low boost levels, but one is recommended.
A cam change is the same, recommended, but not a law.
Header size is based on your valve size. Exhaust pipe is based on hp level.
Having the crank double keyed is a necessity. Heavy snout is not, until high boost levels.
Everything depends on level of build. A mild blower motor can be built without a lot of the things recomended in other answers, but as perfomance increases, so will your parts list.
Socorro's territorial saloons - Part 2
The Early Days Part 1 of this article looked at some of Socorro’s Territorial saloons. At one time, there seemed to be a saloon in Socorro on nearly every corner — like the Palace, Grand Central and Biavaschi Saloons.
